NCRTC Organises train ride for underprivileged children from state supported residential schools

- Educates them about importance of cleanliness under ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ Campaign

Meerut.NCRTC organized a special educational trip for over 100 students and teachers from the Vihan Girls’ Residential School and Vihan Boys’ Residential School in Meerut. This visit was organised with the aim of familiarizing students with modern public transport while encouraging them to embrace cleanliness as a personal responsibility, as part of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ (Cleanliness is Service) campaign.

The Vihan Girls’ Residential School and Vihan Boys’ Residential School operate under a welfare scheme funded directly by Labour Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh, through the UP Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (BOCWW) and provide education to the children of workers and labourers. The educational trip thus offered the students an opportunity to experience modern public transport firsthand while also fostering awareness about cleanliness, hygiene and the responsible use of public spaces. For many of these students, this was their first ever such experience with world-class rapid transit system - a glimpse into the future of mobility.

Accompanied by the officials of Labour Department, Meerut the students and teachers visited Begumpul Namo Bharat Station, from where they took a ride on India’s first regional rail, Namo Bharat. They were briefed about its features, modern technologies and various operational aspects enroute. The students were very excited to experience its operational speed of up to 160 kmph and showed great enthusiasm about its fully air-conditioned coaches and modern passenger amenities. They also got an opportunity to travel on the local Meerut Metro, which operates on the same infrastructure as Namo Bharat. This provided them with a firsthand experience of modern metro services and an insight into how regional and local transport services are integrated within the same system. The experience became particularly special for the students as they learned that Meerut Metro is the country’s fastest metro system and operates in their own city.

To make the experience more engaging and interactive, a special quiz on Namo Bharat was also organized for the students. The quiz gave them an opportunity to test their knowledge of modern public transport while gaining new insights into the Namo Bharat system.

During the visit, the students were introduced to the various initiatives undertaken by NCRTC to maintain cleanliness across the Namo Bharat system. During this interactive session, a detailed discussion was also held on the role of passenger awareness and responsible behaviour in keeping shared spaces, including public transport, clean. The students took a pledge for cleanliness and reaffirmed their commitment to keeping public spaces clean and tidy. They were also encouraged to make cleanliness a part of their everyday lives rather than viewing it merely as part of this campaign.

Since the commencement of operations, the Namo Bharat corridor has surpassed the milestone of 4.5 crore passenger journeys. Recently, the corridor also recorded its highest-ever daily ridership, with more than 1.68 lakh passengers travelling on a single day.
