Over 50 Lakh Commuters travelled in the Namo Bharat Train
Meerut-More than 50 lakh commuters have enjoyed world-class, comfortable, and fast travel in Namo Bharat trains since the start of operations on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor. Namo Bharat trains have become an excellent and preferred mode of public transport.
The 17 km-long Priority Section (Sahibabad-Duhai Depot) of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor was inaugurated on 23 October 2023 by the Hon'ble Prime Minister from Sahibabad RRTS station. Subsequently, Namo Bharat train services were extended to an additional 17 km-long section from Duhai to Modi Nagar North on 6 March 2024. Thereafter, on 18 August 2024, an additional 8 km stretch from Modi Nagar North to Meerut South RRTS station was connected to the operational section.
Once Meerut was connected, commuters' enthusiasm to travel on the Namo Bharat trains along the RRTS corridor surged. The following day, on 19 August, a record 34,000 commuters travelled in Namo Bharat trains during Raksha Bandhan. Recently, the total number of commuters using Namo Bharat trains has surpassed 50 lakh.
According to the data, the highest number of commuters travelled in Namo Bharat trains from the Ghaziabad and Meerut South stations on the corridor. The total length of the operational section from Sahibabad to Meerut South is 42 km, which includes 9 RRTS stations. Commuters are completing the journey between Sahibabad and Meerut South in just 30 minutes.
At present, the trial run of Namo Bharat trains from Sahibabad to Delhi at Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar stations is in its final stage. Anand Vihar is an underground station, which will be the first underground station to be operational on the RRTS corridor. Soon, Namo Bharat trains will begin operating from Sahibabad to New Ashok Nagar, increasing the operational corridor length to 55 km. This expansion will make travel between Delhi and Meerut even more convenient.
There is significant enthusiasm among the youth for Namo Bharat trains, as they are using them to meet their educational and professional needs. Namo Bharat trains are comfortable, safe, modern, and timesaving, making them reliable and setting them apart from other modes of transport. A key feature is their ability to deliver commuters to their destination on time, without interruption, even in cold and foggy conditions.
NCRTC has also recently started a *loyalty points program* for the convenience of commuters, offering a 10 percent discount on fares. Under this program, commuters can earn loyalty points by purchasing QR code-based tickets through the RRTS Connect app.
