Hon’ble Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways, Shri Ajay Tamta visits India’s first Namo Bharat Corridor
Ghaziabad–Meerut.Hon’ble Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH), Shri Ajay Tamta, today visited the Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor to experience the new-age regional mobility system and review its passenger-centric facilities, multimodal integration and advanced technological initiatives.
The visit began at Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat Station, where the Hon’ble Minister was welcomed by a delegation led by Director (Works), NCRTC who then provided an overview of the 82-km Namo Bharat Corridor, its advanced technologies, station facilities, ticketing modes and interoperability model. He was also briefed about the multimodal integration with various public transit modes at this station as well as the Foot Over Bridge (FoB) connecting Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat Station with Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station that is also equipped with travelators for easy interchange between the two stations.
The Hon’ble Minister travelled on India’s first Namo Bharat train from Sarai Kale Khan to Muradnagar. NCRTC officials briefed him on the corridor’s role in addressing regional mobility challenges, reducing congestion and vehicular emissions, and promoting a shift towards efficient and sustainable public transport. During the journey, he experienced the train's commuter-centric features and interacted with passengers, including college students who shared how Namo Bharat has made their daily commute faster & seamless, while also saving travel time significantly. He expressed curiosity to learn about the future corridors, especially extension of this corridor to Rishikesh, Uttarakhand.
Shri Tamta also visited NCRTC Depot at Duhai, Ghaziabad where he planted a sapling. He was briefed on the depot’s maintenance facilities, where the upkeep, inspection, testing and maintenance of Namo Bharat trains is being undertaken. He was also briefed on the systems and processes supporting the safe and reliable operation of the corridor.
Shri Tamta also visited the Train Driving Simulator, where advanced simulation-based training capabilities were demonstrated. He subsequently visited NCRTC’s Centre of Excellence, ‘अपरिमित’, where he witnessed the use of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), simulators, experienced a virtual walkthrough of a Namo Bharat Station and other advanced digital technologies for training, operational efficiency and research and development.
During his journey, Shri Tamta appreciated NCRTC’s strong focus on passenger comfort, accessibility and inclusivity. He noted the various passenger-centric features and amenities incorporated into the Namo Bharat system to enhance ease, convenience, and appreciated how the system is transforming lives of more than One Lakh commuters everyday. He also appreciated the efforts towards creating a modern, safe and inclusive public transport system that not only improves connectivity but also contributes to regional development by enabling faster and more efficient movement of people across Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut.
On 22 February 2026, the Hon’ble Prime Minister dedicated the entire Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor to the nation, marking a transformative new chapter in the country’s urban mobility landscape. The full corridor is contributing to the development of a more integrated regional transport network and facilitating seamless movement between Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut.
