Kanwar Yatra: Frequency of Namo Bharat Trains Increased, Trains Will Now Be Available at Every 10 Minutes
Meerut. In the holy month of Sawan, a large number of devotees travel to Haridwar to bring Kanwar. Many of these devotees are from Delhi, Meerut, and surrounding areas. This year, the month of Sawan begins on Friday, July 11. To ensure the convenience of commuters and devotees, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has made several arrangements.
The frequency of Namo Bharat trains on the operational corridor between New Ashok Nagar and Meerut South has been increased from July 11. During the Kanwar Yatra, Namo Bharat trains will run at an interval of 10 minutes instead of 15 minutes. This facility will be available to passengers from 8 AM to 11 AM and from 5 PM to 8 PM. Currently, this semi-high-speed train operates over a 55 km section across 11 stations, and the number of rides has crossed 1.25 crore, marking a significant milestone.
During the Kanwar Yatra, road traffic from Delhi to Haridwar increases significantly. Entry of heavy vehicles and buses into Meerut is often restricted for some time. In such a scenario, increased frequency of Namo Bharat trains will provide significant relief to the people of Meerut and nearby areas. It is expected that a large number of people from these areas will avail the facility during the Kanwar Yatra.
At present, works related to Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro are also in progress in Meerut. NCRTC is taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and convenience of devotees. Efforts are being made to keep both station areas and work sites in Meerut secure during this period. Under traffic management, traffic marshals are being deployed by NCRTC at key locations. Adequate lighting arrangements have also been made at and around all stations.
Potholes and damaged portions of roads passing through the Namo Bharat alignment have been repaired, and remaining work is being completed on priority. Emergency contact lists related to the Kanwar Yatra will be provided to NCRTC site officials. No construction activity will be undertaken on roads during the Yatra, particularly in congested areas. Vehicles will not be allowed to park near station premises or construction sites. NCRTC is working in close coordination with the local administration to provide full support and ensure the safety of devotees.
