Namo Bharat Arrives in Modipuram, Trial Run Begins on Final Stretch of Meerut Section

Meerut-Taking a significant step towards operationalising the entire Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Corridor, NCRTC started trial runs up to Modipuram, the last station (towards Meerut) of the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor from 1st May 2025. During the trial run, the Namo Bharat train was operated between Shatabdi Nagar and Modipuram. This marks the first time a Namo Bharat train traversed through Meerut’s underground section — a significant milestone in connecting the city’s inner areas to the national capital, Delhi through high-speed transit.

Up till now, trial runs had been underway between the two sections on the either end of the operational section: New Ashok Nagar & Sarai Kale Khan and Meerut South & Shatabdi Nagar. Today marks the first day in the journey of implementing India’s first Namo Bharat when the trains are running on tracks on the entire Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Corridor. It is a major milestone achieved by NCRTC.

During the trial run, the train was operated from Shatabdi Nagar to Modipuram via Begumpul. To assess the compatibility of the rolling stock with civil structures, initially the trains will be operated manually. As the trials progress, NCRTC will conduct a comprehensive evaluation to assess the integration and coordination of the train with various subsystems, including the track, platform screen doors (PSDs), and the overhead power supply system. In the coming days, extensive trial runs, featuring high-speed tests of trains upto their design speed of 180 kmph, will also be carried out in the coming days.

Moving towards Meerut from Delhi, Meerut Central is the first underground station in the Meerut section of the corridor, located near Football Chowk. Moving ahead, there are two more stations in the underground section, Bhaisali and Begumpul. Out of these, while Begumpul will provide services for both, Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro, other two are only Metro stops. The corridor transitions back to an elevated section from Tank Chowk near Begumpul, with MES Colony, Daurli, Meerut North, and Modipuram stations. Among these, only Modipuram will provide Namo Bharat services, while the others are dedicated to the Metro.

Meanwhile, Meerut Metro trial runs are also underway on the Meerut South to Meerut Central stretch. For the first time in India, a local metro system will be operated on the same infrastructure being used for Namo Bharat trains. The 23 km-long Meerut Metro corridor consists of 18 km of elevated and 5 km of underground sections, featuring 13 stations, of which three are underground.

In Meerut, following Meerut South station, both Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro services will be available at Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul (underground), and Modipuram. These stations are being developed as major transit hubs, offering easy access to autos, taxis, and buses in addition to Namo Bharat and Metro services.

Currently, Namo Bharat train services are operational on a 55 km stretch from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South, covering eleven stations of New Ashok Nagar, Anand Vihar, Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Duhai Depot, Muradnagar, Modi Nagar South, Modi Nagar North, and Meerut South. Once the entire 82-km of the corridor between Delhi and Meerut is operational, the journey will take just 55 minutes. The corridor is targeted to be completed within the stipulated timeline of this year.
