NCRTC Organises Interactive Session to Enhance Travel Experience

Shares Insights on Ticketing, Safety and Operations

Meerut. Taking another step towards enhancing the Namo Bharat travel experience, NCRTC organised an interactive session at Begumpul Namo Bharat Station under its comprehensive commuter engagement programme, ‘Namo Bharat Champions’. Christened ‘Know Your Namo Bharat’, the session aimed to familiarise participants with the functioning of the Namo Bharat system, its key features, safety protocols and essential travel guidelines. Through this initiative, NCRTC seeks to create a collaborative platform for meaningful exchange and engagement with commuters.

Daily Namo Bharat commuters who are also the members of the ‘Namo Bharat Champions’ group attended this session. They were particularly keen to understand how young train operators operate Namo Bharat trains and also showed considerable interest in the functioning of stations and other operational activities. Through interactive discussions and a guided station tour, the NCRTC team provided them with practical insights into the systems and processes that ensure safe and convenient travel on Namo Bharat.

The session also covered commonly encountered travel-related issues and their solutions and queries related to ticketing. The team explained the process of booking QR-based paper and digital tickets through Ticket Vending Machines and the ‘Namo Bharat Connect’ app, along with other fare-related processes. They were also informed about the process for sharing feedback and suggestions and the Namo Bharat customer care number, 08069651515, for commuter assistance.

Participants were taken on a guided tour of the Station Control Room (SCR), offering them a closer look at the processes involved in managing station operations and passenger movement.

Senior UPSSF security officials and the Station In-charge also briefed them about the advanced security systems deployed at Namo Bharat stations. They explained how security checks are conducted at station entrances using multi-zone Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMDs). The group was also familiarised with AI-enabled luggage scanners equipped with dual-view X-ray baggage inspection systems for enhanced screening of belongings. They were briefed in detail on prohibited items at station premises and advised against carrying such items while travelling.

The group was apprised of various provisions made for commuter safety on Namo Bharat. Every train has a dedicated coach for women, while seats are reserved for women, children, senior citizens and commuters with disabilities in other coaches. Stations and trains are monitored round-the-clock through CCTV cameras. Several measures have also been undertaken to ensure safe access around station premises, including well-lit station areas, CCTV coverage and improved last-mile connectivity, contributing to a safer environment for commuters.

Participants were informed about NCRTC’s recently launched gender sensitisation campaign, ‘Aakankshaon ke Pankh’, which aims to promote a safe, respectful and inclusive public transport environment. The session highlighted the importance of commuter awareness, empathy and collective responsibility in creating a safe transit environment.

Emergency situations were also discussed during the session. The commuters showed particular interest in understanding how to seek assistance during an emergency. The team explained safety protocols for various emergency situations, including fire incidents, the location and functioning of emergency exits, and other essential procedures to be followed during emergencies.

‘Namo Bharat Champions’ is a comprehensive commuter engagement programme designed to encourage active participation of commuters in the continuous improvement of Namo Bharat services. Through this initiative, NCRTC is building a network of engaged commuters who can offer constructive suggestions, promote responsible use of the system and create greater awareness about commuter amenities and appropriate travel behaviour. Based on the principle of ‘for commuters, by commuters’, the initiative seeks to create a collaborative platform for continuous dialogue and feedback through meaningful participation of Namo Bharat commuters.

The interactive session offered the attendees an opportunity to understand Namo Bharat beyond their daily journeys. NCRTC will continue to organise such events to facilitate meaningful interactions and exchange of feedback with commuters, contributing to the continuous enhancement of the overall travel experience.

Commuters interested in joining the ‘Namo Bharat Champions’ group can register through QR codes displayed at stations or through the NCRTC website and social media platforms, including X, Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. By joining the group, commuters can become ‘champions’ of responsible public transport usage.
