Major Dhyan Chand Sports University Announces New Academic Programmes

 Diploma in Sports Journalism to be Launched

Meerut, 1 June 2026.

Major Dhyan Chand Sports University, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, organized a Press Briefing on 1 June 2026 at the Auditorium of the College of Technology, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology, Modipuram, Meerut. The briefing was addressed by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Major General Deep Ahlawat, VSM (Retd.).

At the outset of his address, the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Hon’ble Chancellor of the University and Governor Mrs. Anandiben Patel, and the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Shri Yogi Adityanath, for their visionary leadership, continuous guidance, and unwavering support towards the development of sports, strengthening of sports culture, and the creation of a world-class sports ecosystem in the state.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that Major Dhyan Chand Sports University has been envisioned as a leading institution that brings together sports, education, science, and research on a unified platform. The University aims to create an enabling environment where talented athletes, sports professionals, trainers, and coaches can develop their potential and contribute to the nation’s sporting achievements.

Taking a significant step towards creating new career opportunities for youth in the rapidly expanding sports industry, Major Dhyan Chand Sports University will introduce a PG Diploma in Sports Journalism and Mass Communication from the upcoming academic session. The programme will open new career pathways for sports enthusiasts in areas such as sports journalism, broadcasting, digital content creation, commentary, public relations, and sports communication.

The launch of this programme is particularly significant as Meerut is widely recognized as India’s “Sports City” and is one of the country’s largest sports goods manufacturing hubs. Thousands of sports equipment manufacturing units operate in and around the city, including several nationally and internationally renowned brands. With the rapid growth of India’s sports industry, the demand for trained professionals in sports communication, media management, content creation, and sports marketing is also increasing. In this context, the proposed diploma programme is expected to be highly relevant and impactful.

“Today, the sports industry requires not only athletes and coaches but also skilled professionals who can communicate sporting stories to society, document athletes’ achievements, promote sports culture, and connect sportspersons with the public through media. Through the PG Diploma in Sports Journalism and Mass Communication, our objective is to develop a new generation of sports communicators and provide meaningful career opportunities to sports-loving youth in this rapidly evolving field,” said Vice-Chancellor Major General Deep Ahlawat (Retd.).

The Vice-Chancellor made this announcement during a media interaction organized to share updates regarding preparations for the upcoming academic session, academic expansion plans, infrastructure development, and administrative progress.

Addressing the media, he stated that the University is working in alignment with the vision of Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and Honourable Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath to make Uttar Pradesh a leading sports state in the country and to create greater employment and career opportunities for youth in sports and allied sectors.

Providing details of the programmes to be offered in the upcoming academic session, the Vice-Chancellor informed that admissions will be conducted for Bachelor of Physical Education and Sports (BPES), B.Sc. Yoga, M.Sc. Yoga, and the PG Diploma in Sports Journalism and Mass Communication.

He further stated that the University is expanding its academic and training programmes under the School of Physical Education, School of Sports Management and Technology, and School of Coaching. Under the School of Coaching, PG Diploma programmes are proposed in Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Equestrian, Hockey, Kabaddi, Wrestling, and Yoga to address the growing demand for trained coaches and sports experts.

The Vice-Chancellor also shared updates on the progress of construction work at the University’s Salawa campus and informed that the process of recruiting highly qualified faculty members and experienced coaches is underway to ensure excellence in education, research, and sports training.

“Our goal is to develop Major Dhyan Chand Sports University as a centre of excellence in sports education, coaching, sports science, research, and sports management. The University will play a significant role in preparing the skilled human resources required to make India a global sporting powerhouse,” he said.

The media interaction was also attended by the University Registrar, Shri Sunil Kumar Jha, Dean (Academic), Dr. Satyant Kumar, and other university officials.

The University appealed to students, athletes, and other stakeholders to take advantage of sports-centric academic opportunities and become active partners in the development of sports in Uttar Pradesh and across the country.
