NCRTC Organises Two-Day Menstrual Hygiene Awareness Drive at Namo Bharat Stations

Meerut. On the occasion of Menstrual Hygiene Day, NCRTC organised a two-day awareness drive on 27 and 28th May at Sarai Kale Khan and Begumpul Namo Bharat stations to promote awareness on menstrual health and hygiene among women commuters. The initiative focused on encouraging informed conversations around menstrual wellbeing and creating greater awareness about safe menstrual hygiene practices in public spaces.

The awareness campaign was conducted in association with NCRTC’s Operations and Maintenance partner, DB RRTS India. As part of the drive, dedicated outreach activities were organised at stations as well as inside the women coach of Namo Bharat trains. Information desks and awareness kiosks were set up near commuter movement areas, where women volunteers interacted with commuters and shared informational material related to menstrual hygiene and wellbeing. Menstrual hygiene kits containing sanitary pads, period trackers and awareness material were also distributed among women commuters during the programme.

To create wider engagement and encourage public participation, interactive activity zones and themed photo booths were installed at both stations. Women volunteers also interacted with commuters inside the women coach, helping create a comfortable space for open and approachable conversations around menstrual health during daily travel.

The initiative received encouraging participation from women commuters, many of whom appreciated the effort to bring conversations around menstrual hygiene into public spaces such as stations and trains. Several commuters shared that such awareness initiatives help normalise discussions around menstrual health while making important information more accessible during daily travel.

Menstrual health and hygiene remain important aspects of women’s wellbeing, yet awareness and open conversations around the subject often remain limited due to social stigma and hesitation. By organising such initiatives at high-footfall public transport spaces, NCRTC aims to contribute towards greater awareness, encourage informed conversations and create a more supportive and inclusive commuter environment.

Earlier this year, NCRTC also launched a gender sensitization campaign titled ‘Aakankshaon Ke Pankh’ , aimed at promoting inclusivity and gender sensitivity, recognising the challenges faced by women commuters, and highlighting the role of bystanders in ensuring a safer public transport environment. With this campaign, undertaken for the next five years, NCRTC has taken a step forward in strengthening not just systems, but also mindsets, recognising that a truly safe public transport environment is built on awareness, empathy, and shared responsibility. The initiative further reinforces NCRTC’s commitment to ensuring that every journey on the Namo Bharat network is safe, inclusive, and respectful.

NCRTC continues to undertake several initiatives focused on commuter comfort, safety and wellbeing across the Namo Bharat corridor. Along with providing fast, reliable and comfortable regional connectivity, continuous efforts are being made to ensure that Namo Bharat stations and trains evolve as responsive public spaces that positively contribute to community engagement and social awareness.
