Single-Point Security Check Operationalized between Namo Bharat & Delhi Metro at New Ashok Nagar
- A Game-Changing Initiative Enabling Seamless, Time-Saving and Hassle-Free Urban Mobility for Commuters
In a significant commuter-centric initiative, single-point security checking has been operationalized for the commuters interchanging between Namo Bharat and Delhi Metro at New Ashok Nagar.
Meerut.Commuters interchanging between the New Ashok Nagar Namo Bharat Station and the adjoining New Ashok Nagar Metro Station on the Blue Line will now be required to undergo security screening at only one point. Delhi Metro commuters who want to commute further towards Meerut via Namo Bharat train will not be frisked again as they alight and interchange at New Ashok Nagar Namo Bharat station. Similarly, Namo Bharat commuters wanting to travel further towards Noida will not have to go through security check again at metro station. This has been enabled through the operational interchange Foot Over Bridge (FOB) connecting the two stations and the creation of a new security checkpoint at Gate No. 2 of the Metro station. This initiative will prove to be a gamechanger in the daily travels, allowing commuters to avoid multiple security checks while moving between the two networks.
For daily commuters, multiple security checks often translate into long queues, extended waiting time and inconvenience, particularly during peak hours. These delays not only add to overall commute time but also create uncertainty and fatigue, discouraging many from opting for public transport. By eliminating multiple security screening, this initiative will significantly reduce travel time and make interchanges hassle-free, addressing one of the most persistent pain points faced by the commuters. Speed has been one of the core tenets of Namo Bharat, completing the journey between Delhi and Meerut under an hour. This initiative will support it further.
This single-point security check initiative marks an important shift in how urban transport systems are evolving, with commuter needs placed firmly at the forefront. By simplifying interchange procedures, it ensures smoother, faster and more reliable journeys, making public transport a more attractive and practical choice for daily travel.
Further, a dedicated FOB has been operationalized at the Ghaziabad Namo Bharat Station, which provides a direct link to the Delhi Metro’s Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda station. Measuring approximately 300 metres in length and 6.5 metres in width, the FOB connects the lower PD level of the Namo Bharat station with the concourse level of the metro station, enabling safe, smooth and time-efficient commuter movement. In future, travellators will also be installed on this FOB to enhance the comfort of the commuters moving from one system to the other. Ghaziabad Namo Bharat Station is located in a densely populated urban area, close to the city’s main bus terminal, and serves prominent residential, commercial and institutional neighbourhoods. This translates into high daily footfall, making seamless interchange essential for commuters.
This step is part of a broader effort of NCRTC to deliver seamless, end-to-end travel experiences. Earlier, integrated QR ticketing with Delhi metro was introduced, allowing commuters to book tickets through the mobile applications of either system. This digital integration has eliminated the need to stand in long queues or switch between multiple platforms.
These measures reflect a true Multi-Modal Integration approach, a core focus area of the Namo Bharat project. As transport systems step up to match the pace of urban life, such initiatives play a crucial role in improving commuter convenience, encouraging the use of public transport and reducing reliance on private vehicles.
The initiative also reflects the evolving approach of urban transport systems, where infrastructure, operations and commuter movement are being planned together to ensure continuity in journeys rather than friction at transfer points. As public transport networks scale up, such integration becomes essential in delivering future-ready, commuter-first mobility solutions that are faster, simpler and more reliable.
