NCRTC Launches a Special Awareness Campaign on Escalator Safety at Namo Bharat Stations

Meerut.Commuter safety has always been the highest priority for NCRTC, and it continues to undertake various initiatives to ensure a safe and comfortable travel experience. Taking another step in this direction, a special awareness campaign on the safe use of escalators was recently launched across Namo Bharat stations. The campaign aimed to educate commuters about escalator safety rules and promote responsible travel behaviour.

As part of the campaign, teams from NCRTC and its operations and maintenance partner, DB RRTS India, interacted with commuters at various Namo Bharat stations and onboard trains. They shared key safety messages and encouraged commuters to follow basic precautions while using escalators to ensure their own safety as well as that of others. In the first phase of the campaign, high-footfall stations such as Anand Vihar, Ghaziabad, and Meerut South were covered to reach a larger number of commuters.

During these interactions, commuters were advised to hold the handrail while using escalators, avoid rushing or using mobile phones, and opt for elevators when carrying heavy or bulky luggage. They were also informed about the location and use of the emergency stop buttons. Banners and posters displaying key safety messages were placed prominently within the station premises.

During this campaign, special emphasis was laid on child safety. Staff sensitised commuters travelling with children about the precautions to be taken while using escalators, such as holding children’s hands firmly, keeping them away from the edges, and prohibiting them to run or play on the escalators.

Commuters appreciated the initiative, noting that such awareness activities not only enhance safety but also help foster a sense of shared responsibility among commuters.

Commuter safety continues to remain the top priority for NCRTC. Awareness drives such as these are important steps towards strengthening the culture of safe travel and ensuring a secure, reliable experience for all Namo Bharat commuters.

To enhance commuter safety, all Namo Bharat stations and trains are equipped with CCTV cameras monitored round the clock from the Central Security Control Centre. Each station has a dedicated police room to enable quick coordination with local authorities whenever required.  Commuter screening at station entry points is conducted through multi-zone Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMDs).

Currently, a 55-km section between New Ashok Nagar and Meerut South station of the 82-km-long Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor, comprising 11 stations, is operational. The remaining section will also be commissioned for the public soon.
