NCRTC Honours and Pays Tribute to the Kargil Bravehearts of the Indian Armed Forces

- MD, NCRTC Inaugurates Memorial Kargil Vijay Diwas Zone at New Ashok Nagar Namo Bharat Station

Meerut. To commemorate the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas, NCRTC paid tribute to the Kargil heroes of the Indian Armed Forces. As a part of this event, a memorial zone was inaugurated by Shri Shalabh Goel, Managing Director, NCRTC, at New Ashok Nagar Namo Bharat Station on Friday, 25th July 2025. This zone features the brave hearts who fought in the Kargil war, highlighting their courage and sacrifice in one of India’s most challenging military operations in the extreme temperatures and terrains.

The event was graced by Mrs. Tripta Thapar and Colonel V.N. Thapar, parents of Kargil martyr Capt. Vijyant Thapar, whose legacy continues to inspire generations. They shared moving anecdotes from the life and service of their son, offering a deeply personal perspective on his courage and sacrifice. His last letter written to his parents, available on digital media, also gives a glimpse of his unwavering love and devotion for his country.

Speaking on the occasion, MD, NCRTC said, “On behalf of the entire NCRTC family, I pay heartfelt tribute to the brave soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces. Through this initiative, we hope every Namo Bharat commuter learns about the significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas, draws inspiration from the valour of our heroes, and carries forward the spirit of patriotism.”

To engage and educate the younger generation about the significance of Kargil Vijay Diwas, an Art Assembly was also organised. Students from various schools participated in this event and expressed their tribute to the brave hearts of the nation through drawings. These artworks, alongside the Kargil Vijay Diwas gallery, will remain on display at the station for public viewing, free of cost, over the coming days. Moreover, a storytelling session by a celebrated author, Mr Rishi Raj, where he narrated a story of soldiers’ courage at Kargil, also enthralled and inspired the audience.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is observed on 26th July, marking India’s victory in the Kargil War, also known as Operation Vijay. It was a military operation during which Indian forces reclaimed strategic outposts in Kargil, Jammu & Kashmir infiltrated by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control. The conflict, which lasted from May to July 1999, ended with India regaining control over key mountain peaks, including Tiger Hill. 2025 marks the 26th year of this historic victory and commemorates the bravery and sacrifice of our Indian soldiers who fought valiantly against Pakistani intruders.

NCRTC has been consistently making efforts to transform Namo Bharat Stations into a lively social hub rather than just a stop in the journey of commuters. It aims to weave in and celebrate the national, social and cultural aspects of their lives with their day today life. For this, it has been undertaking various community-centric initiatives such as Namo Bharat Unplugged: Musical Fridays, Art Exhibitions, and interactive public zones. The Kargil Vijay Diwas gallery is another step in this direction. The initiative honours the valour and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces during the Kargil war and aims to foster awareness, pride, and collective memory.
