NCRTC's innovative initiatives & project  implementation approach gets recognised under three categories at Prestigious ET Infra Rail Show Awards 2025

Meerut. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) was recognised and awarded for its contributions in the railway sector at the prestigious ET Infra Rail Show Awards 2025, held on Friday, 13th June. Awards were conferred in three categories: ‘Best Integrated Property Development/Transit Oriented Development’, ‘Best Project Delivery Timeline for MRTS/RRTS’, and ‘Best Track Laying Performance’.

NCRTC is implementing India’s first Namo Bharat corridor between Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut. Marked by the adoption of advanced technologies, integrated planning approaches, and growing emphasis on sustainability and efficiency, this project is set to enhance regional mobility and transform the urban connectivity.

In the Best Track Laying Performance category, NCRTC’s adoption of precast slab track technology has been a significant differentiator. Namo Bharat trains are the only trains across India functioning successfully on tracks at maximum operational speed of 160 kmph from past more than 1.5 years. For a semi high-speed train like Namo Bharat, with the design speed of 180 kmph, track reliability, ease of maintenance, and riding comfort are critical. The precast slab track system not only addresses these needs but also enhances lifecycle efficiency, requiring minimal maintenance over its 50–100-year lifespan. Designed to minimise vibration and jerks, this system provides a smooth, stable riding experience. This advanced track system also supports fast-paced construction and ease of replacement, making it particularly suited for high-performance train corridor like Namo Bharat.

The Best Project Delivery Timeline award recognises the fast pace of project implementation by NCRTC. The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor was first operationlised for commuters on 21st October 2023, with the commissioning of the 17-km Priority Section of the corridor from Sahibabad to Duhai Depot with five stations. Since then, various sections of the corridor have been operationalised in phased manner. It is one of the rarest mass infrastructure projects of India to adhere to the timeline, despite being an entirely new, first of its kind system to be implemented with the most advanced technologies; and the challenges posed by a global pandemic COVID 19.  At present, a 55-km stretch with 11 stations is operational, while trial runs are in progress on the remaining sections. The entire 82 km long corridor will be commissioned for people by this year in its stipulated timeline.

Recognition for Best Integrated Property Development/Transit Oriented Development reflects NCRTC’s role in advancing sustainable and planned urban growth around transit corridors. Following the formulation of Uttar Pradesh’s TOD Policy in 2022, the city of Meerut became the first in India to integrate TOD zones into its official Master Plan (2031) and NCRTC played a significant role in this endeavour. NCRTC supported this initiative by assisting in the identification and delineation of TOD zones and helping structure associated value capture financing tools. Approximately 3273 hectares have been earmarked by the Meerut Development Authority, with over 2400 hectares delineated into seven TOD zones and two Special Development Areas (SDAs) surrounding the Namo Bharat and Meerut Metro corridors. It demonstrates an integrated approach of the government of Uttar Pradesh and NCRTC to transit and urban development.

The awards acknowledge various elements of planning, technology adoption, and project delivery by NCRTC that are shaping the development of a modern regional mobility framework in the National Capital Region.
