Air-Conditioned Namo Bharat Trains Ensure Comfortable Commute in Scorching Heat
Selective Door Opening Saves Energy
Meerut-To offer commuters a convenient and comfortable travel experience, Namo Bharat Project have deployed several modern technologies in its implementation— ‘selective door opening’ being one of the important amongst them.
With this feature, the train doors operate in passenger control mode (via push-button opening), meaning they don’t open automatically at every station. Instead, commuters press a button to open the doors when needed. This system, being used for the first time in India, helps retain cool air inside the train and significantly reduces energy consumption.
The air-conditioning system is designed to withstand extreme heat. Each coach is equipped with two advanced HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) units. Together, they maintain a comfortable temperature of around 25°C inside the coaches, adjustable based on seasonal requirements like summer, winter, or monsoon.
This efficient system ensures that commuters stay comfortable even during peak summer heat. Commuters travelling by roads, often have to deal with heat and dust. Namo Bharat proves to be a boon for them, offering a clean, climate-controlled alternative. Be it students, working professionals, women, or senior citizens, everyone can enjoy a cool, relaxed journey.
To ensure consistent performance, the AC systems undergo regular maintenance. Filters are cleaned regularly part of a scheduled routine. The station platforms are designed to be open and airy to allow natural ventilation, keeping waiting commuters comfortable even outdoors. Premium lounges are equipped with large fans for extra cooling, and commuters can also access clean, purified drinking water free of charge.
Currently, Namo Bharat operates along a 55 km stretch from New Ashok Nagar in Delhi to Meerut South, covering 11 stations:
New Ashok Nagar, Anand Vihar (underground), Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Duhai Depot, Muradnagar, Modi Nagar South, Modi Nagar North, and Meerut South. NCRTC is persevering to operationalise the entire Delhi- Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor in its stipulated timeline by this year.
