SaveLIFE Foundation, ICICI Lombard organised CI and Patrolling training for enforcement agencies on Mumbai-Pune Expressway
The training comprehensively covers systematic crash investigation procedures, equipping participants with the skills to scientifically assess crash sites, document critical evidence, and analyze vehicle, human, and environmental factors contributing to crashes.
Pune, October 2025: In a major initiative towards enhancing road safety and reducing road fatalities, SaveLIFE Foundation, with support from the corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative of ICICI Lombard, organised a training for enforcement agencies who work along the Mumbai Pune Expressway (MPEW).
The ‘Crash Investigation and Safe Patrolling Training’ workshop was held in Lonavala, Pune on 15 October 2025, with over 67 participants in attendance.
The workshop aims to strengthen the capacity of enforcement agencies:
- To conduct systematic crash investigation procedures
- With skills to scientifically assess crash sites and
- Document critical evidence, and analyse vehicle, human, and environmental factors contributing to crashes.
Further, participants will be upskilled to interpret crash dynamics, identify root causes and derive actionable insights to present recurrence.
Between January 2025 to September 2025, a total of 39 fatalities were recorded on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, showcasing a fatality reduction of approximately 45% compared to the baseline year from January 2024 to September 2024.
Additionally, the session emphasized on safe patrolling practices focusing on proactive risk mitigation and effective incident management to strengthen overall road safety operations and reduce fatalities on the expressway.
The workshop was graced by Mr. Tanaji Chikhale, Superintendent of Police (SP), HSP, Raigad, Mrs Pushpalata Dighe, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP), HSP, Raigad and SaveLIFE Foundation Team.
Speaking during the event, Mr. Tanaji Chikhale, Superintendent of Police (SP), HSP, Raigad said, "This workshop takes an important step in the capacity building for our enforcement teams. It gives us the ability to look at the various factors – vehicular, human, or environmental – that cause an accident, methodically investigate the crash, assess the scene, record crucial evidence, and analyze the factors. Enhancing our ability in these areas helps us to take appropriate action in the field to improve safety for those on the road.”
Giving more details on this, Founder and CEO of SaveLIFE Foundation, Mr. Piyush Tewari, said, "At SaveLIFE Foundation, our mission is to make India’s roads free of fatalities through evidence-based interventions and stronger enforcement. Through this training, officers gained deeper insight into crash dynamics, learnt to identify root causes of road crash deaths, and adopted preventive measures to avert future crashes. The Mumbai–Pune Expressway, is one of India’s busiest corridors, and training programs like these are an important step toward making it free of fatalities.".
The Mumbai-Pune Expressway (MPEW) has been a key focus area for SaveLIFE Foundation. SaveLife has always been at the forefront working towards engineering improvements, enforcement training, trauma care strengthening, and behavioral change campaigns — all aimed at achieving zero fatalities on the expressway.
