NCRTC Organizes Assistive Aid and Entrepreneurial Equipment Distribution Drive Under JFPR

Meerut.NCRTC organized a distribution drive for assistive aids and entrepreneurial equipment on 31st July 2025, in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The ceremony was graced by Mrs Namita Mehrotra, Director Finance, NCRTC and Ms Mio Oka, Country Head, ADB along with senior officials from NCRTC and ADB.  The initiative has been undertaken as part of the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific (JFPR), in partnership with the ADB.

As part of the initiative, 108 wheelchairs were distributed to differently-abled individuals to enhance their mobility, independence, and access to opportunities.  With better access to transportation, daily activities, and workspaces, this initiative will enable more active participation for them in social and professional spheres, making job opportunities more accessible.

Additionally, 24 sewing machines were provided to women from economically weaker sections to encourage self-employment and skill-based livelihoods. This effort is aimed at fostering entrepreneurial skills and promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities for beneficiaries. These machines will serve as tools for economic empowerment, helping women build financial independence while contributing to their families' economic stability and community development.

This initiative represents a significant step toward improving the quality of life for differently-abled individuals and promoting women's economic participation through skill-based employment opportunities. Armed with the right tools, these people are better positioned to unlock their potential and contribute meaningfully to economic and social activities.

In line with NCRTC’s ‘commuters-first’ approach, the organization has spared no effort to provide a comfortable and seamless commuting experience. To facilitate the movement of visually impaired passengers, dedicated tactile paths have been created at stations, to avoid any confusion guiding them along the shortest possible routes to key areas. Additionally, special, spacious lifts have been installed to facilitate the movement of stretchers and wheelchairs for medical needs. Multiple lifts and escalators have also been provided to ensure an easy and hassle-free journey for all commuters, especially the elderly, differently-abled individuals, children, and women.

By addressing both mobility and livelihood needs, NCRTC continues to expand the role of Namo Bharat beyond transportation, serving as a catalyst for social empowerment and equitable development in the region.
